Here, Otiosa Agebamus

I wrote this for a friend of mine after spending an evening talking with her in a cafe. She left for Italy the next day and by the time we were both back from vacations, the summer was over and she went back to school.

Here, otiosa agebamus, mea Amadea, nocte
  Verba remittentes verbis quos missimus
Nescivimus quomodo incepissemus aut ubi mentes
Nos ducant sed tunc eheu! tam brevi hic
Sedimus. adveni tardus cito tam cito abisti.
Tempus nostrum actum, nondum verba tacent.
Iam te nosque mirantes desolatus memoro atque
Ad terram antiquam transisti procul; sed
Experier forsan exspectans dum adis rursus.
Quod animus foveat, caecum nescio eheu!
Verba in corde meo linquis et nomen infixum,
  Mens semifacta mea est--

Here is a sort of rough translation. I'm not an English poet, and this is my translation, so it unfortunately loses any artistry in the translation. Eventually I'll get somebody to do a proper English version.

Yesterday, my Amadea, we spent a pleasent night
Sending back words to words we sent.
We knew not how we began nor where our minds
Were leading us, but alas! too briefly here
We sat. I arrived late, quickly, too quickly you left.
Our time was spent, not yet were our words silent.
Now you and us wondering I lonely recall and
You have gone far away to the old land; but
Let me be tormented perhaps, awaiting, until you are present again.
What my spirit cherishes, hidden I alas know not!
Words you left in my heart and a name driven in,
  My mind is half formed--
