Links
I've got a reasonable amount of experience looking around the web. While I'm
not at all authoritative, I do frequent a number of sites, and often refer
people to other sites as well. Here are some of the places I like.
Information Sources
- Slashdot.org: rapidly becoming the
best source for news on the internet, slashdot is a unique site. The news
content is provided via links to other sources and suggestions sent in by
readers, and the site lets people discuss it. I post occasionally, so you
might see some of my ideas there.
- Metacrawler: a meta search
engine. I like the query format it uses better than other engines, and it
generally gives a good mix of documents. It's the first place I look for
something on the web.
- Linux Weekly News: News about Linux. (Daily Updates)
- Kernel
Traffic: The way to hear about what's going on with the Linux kernel
without getting tons and tons of mail.
- Freshmeat: programs.
Important Documents
Computer-related
- RFCs: A list of
specifications of internet stuff.
- HTML 4.0: The official
guide to how HTML works.
- Java API
1.2B4: a relatively nicely presented, and official, set of documentation
for the provided libraries for Java.
- Java
Language Specification: the official specification for the Java language.
- Search RFCs:
technical documentation of internet specifications and future specifications.
- R5RS:
The latest Scheme specification.
Writing-related
Entertainment
- Helen, Sweetheart of the
Internet: my favorite comic strip. Comes out with five strips every
other week.
- Bruno: another
comic strip I keep up with.
- User Friendly: yet
another comic strip.
- The Onion: A saticial newspaper
I frequently like. Also a common source for things that get forwarded
around. Don't miss the pictures...
- Nerve Magazine: Some erotica I
find tasteful, and well as writing I find at least interesting. I think this
very clearly counts as art.
- Inform: a
language for making text adventures, with links to other information.
